Program Information
Where can I find more information about specific Crusaders Youth Hockey (CYH) Programs?
Information regarding each of our individual programs from Learn to Skate through Midgets can be found under "Programs" in the Top Navigation Bar.
When does the season start and finish?
Our hockey season runs from late August to March/April, starting with practices. Games are scheduled by the VHL to start early September.
- U16/U18 play a half-season, ending before Thanksgiving, no playoffs.
- U8 play fewer games than other full-season teams, and playoffs will probably begin around early March.
- U10 to U14 teams play the longest seasons. Playoffs will probably begin late March, and traditionally end prior to the third Monday in April (which is the start of Massachusetts April vacation week). VHL playoff rounds are single-elimination and wrap up within about 10 days from when they begin.
Teams and Schedule Information
Where do I find my player's Team page?
Go to the "Teams" tab section at the top of the page. Select the level your child plays at and then select the team he or she plays on. Once on that page, from the left navigation bar, there is a menu to clink on for <Contacts>—to reach out to your coaches, <Schedule>—to show the events for that team (games, practices, skills sessions, etc.), and <Roster>—to view your team members.
My information on the roster is incorrect. How can I update it?
Click on "Edit My Account" in the Left Navigation Bar. After you log in, click on your name to update your contact information. Remember to click Submit when you are done updating.
I want to find my player's Schedule.
Go to the "Teams" Tab section at the top of the page. Select the level your child plays at and then select the team he or she plays on and then on the Left Navigation Bar select Schedule.
OR on the Home Page, click on Master Schedule to see a week-at-a-glance for all teams, for games and practices at all rinks.
Where and when do we practice?
Our home rinks are at the Groton School and Lawrence Academy, both in Groton, MA. Practices are held during various weekday evenings and weekends here. Only in the very early and late season, some ice is scheduled at other rinks, due to our home rinks opening and closing dates not coinciding with our ice needs and calendar.
Practices are usually 2X/week. Times and days will vary, based around each team’s game schedule and ice availability. Consideration is also given to coaches that coach multiple teams. Some ice availability diminishes after Thanksgiving, influencing the frequency of practices. An effort is made to try to avoid scheduling more than 2 teams per sheet of ice at any given time throughout the season. While we strive for consistency, fairness and equality, it is not perfect given so many factors.
Skills Sessions will be held throughout the season, rotating weekly by levels U6 through U18. Your team’s session will be designated as such on the calendar/schedule.
How are games scheduled?
Games are determined by the Valley Hockey League (VHL) http://www.valleyhockeyleague.com/ at a variety of rinks in the region, on the weekends Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays. Therefore, CYH does not set the game schedule for its teams.
VHL has shown a pretty consistent game-release schedule for its full-season teams. The first release will cover September and most of October (“parity round”) ; the second release will go through about New Years; the third will go through early March; and the fourth will cover the last couple weeks in March before playoffs. As soon as the VHL schedule is made available, games and practices will be added to the master calendar on our website and emails notifications will follow.
Occasionally, game and practice schedules can change, which we may not have control over. Any changes will be communicated with as much notice as possible. Coaches/team managers will also be in touch with their team. Please ensure that you are set up to receive emails with a current email address to receive all league communications.
Do you have an "app" for tracking my team?
“Sports Illustrated Play” app—we highly recommend downloading this tool to keep track of your team schedule, it communicates directly with our teams calendars. All instructions for set up and use are available here https://siplay-static.s3.amazonaws.com/forms/Family_Member_Guide.pdf.
